The Story Behind
the Brand
It all began long before the first bottle. I was building a business in Saint-Petersburg — Korean beauty stores that I loved with my whole heart. I adored every jar, every formula. I consulted clients personally and watched them come alive when they found what was truly theirs. Within four months, we had opened four stores. We were growing fast — too fast, as it turned out. Then, in a single moment, everything collapsed.
A separation from the business partner I had loved. Closed stores. A move to Moscow. And a debt of 4.5 million rubles (4.500€) — now mine alone.
That was the first time I truly heard myself.
I was in the Maldives, at a personal growth retreat, when it happened. We were working with the deepest layer — with what the soul actually wants, when there is no one left to perform for. I picked up a piece of paper and drew a perfume bottle. Just drew it. And everything became clear.
I had thought about perfume for years — but always found a reason not to begin. Not enough knowledge. Not enough understanding of how or why. Not enough money. But standing at the point where it seemed there was nothing left to lose, the fear simply dissolved. Only the truth remained.
The slogan that appeared on my first fragrance became the philosophy of the entire brand:
"You can run away as long as you like but eventually you'll come to yourself."
Better early and willingly. Than late and through ruin.
I returned to Moscow and began — with no industry connections, no formal education, no clear roadmap. I called big factories, independent perfumers. Every single one turned me away: "go open a cafe", "perfume requires serious investment", "this isn't for you." I kept calling. Stubbornly. Methodically. With an absolute certainty that somewhere there was a person who would help me bring this dream to life. I found her.
Together with my perfumer, we began work on the first two fragrances. I told my friends about it — no website, no advertising, just honestly: "I'm creating my own perfume. Would you like one?" Forty-six people from eleven countries said "yes" and transferred money before the product even existed. They simply believed — in me, in the story, in the sense that something real was being made. They waited six months. I didn't let a single one of them down.
For the bottles, I coordinated logistics from two suppliers in France — selecting every detail myself. Heavy caps that communicate quality the moment they touch your hand. Rare ingredients chosen alongside my perfumer. A visual identity that reflected my values: beauty, leadership, creativity.
I absorbed everything like a sponge. I learned how each scent affects the mind, shifts a mood, changes how others perceive you. The depth of that knowledge grew so quickly that I was invited to teach at a school of perfumery — without a degree, without any formal credential. Only with what cannot be acquired: genuine passion and an understanding of fragrance from the inside out.
Two and a half years in, I discovered something that changed my relationship to this path forever.
My great-great-grandfather was a healer and an herbalist — he could hear each plant individually. His was a gift of healing through nature, passed through generations. Perfumery is the same craft. I didn't come to this path by accident. I am continuing a family story — simply in a new language.
For me, fragrance is an elixir that exists outside of time and space. Invisible, yet immediate. Something that carries us back to a memory or forward into a state of strength before we've even registered what's happening. The mastery of POLINA GOLOVAN consists in that elegant translation — moving you to the next version of yourself through the states you choose to inhabit.
I sense people before they've said a word. Perhaps that's why my fragrances tend to land exactly where they need to. Today, my fragrances are being worn by entrepreneurs and business leaders, by true connoisseurs of niche perfumery and by people who have tried everything and finally found something that resembles nothing else. Those for whom fragrance is not merely an accessory — it is a tool. A way of managing your inner state, your energy, the impression you leave on the world.
I have placed my fragrances in the hands of the President of Tatarstan, Emin Agalarov, Prokhor Shalyapin and many others whose names are well known across Russia. Not because I was invited. Simply because I am not afraid to approach people who deserve the best.
In 2025, I moved to Dubai — where cultures converge, ambitions are built, and people are rewriting what's possible. This is where POLINA GOLOVAN begins its journey toward international recognition.
I travel because every place installs something new in me — a new state, a missing piece. I breathe in the world and translate it into fragrance. Sometimes I create a scent around a quality I want to grow into — and through wearing it, I become it. This is not metaphor. It is a mechanics of transformation that I pass on to everyone who chooses POLINA GOLOVAN.
Fragrance is a lever. When you understand the rules, you hold the power.
